Judging Criteria

Images will be judged by quality of composition, elements of design, concept, color and technical quality. Photographs that feature Wisconsin culture, history or geography will have an advantage in scoring, though overall photographic quality is the most important factor. Judges will look for:

  • Strong composition; layout and placement of camera to subject reinforce the image presence.
  • Images and composition that use the elements of design to create a strong layout and high aesthetic value.
  • Strong and effective concept. Idea is communicated well without giving more than is needed.
  • Color that promotes the message or effect.
  • Images that are high-quality in focus and resolution, and properly exposed.

Prizes will be awarded by three judges who are teacher/educators. Judgment will be blind; judges will not know the names or districts of contestants. Photographs that best meet all of the above criteria will be awarded first prize. Judges' decisions will be include some degree of subjectivity. Judges' decisions are final.

Each first place prizewinner will receive an iPod Touch with 8 GB. Each second place prizewinner will receive an iPod Nano with 8 GB. All winning photographs will be displayed on the imageide@s Photo Contest page on imageide@s.
